Tamang Heritage Trek, a special and exclusive country walks which exploring remote rural farm villages of an ancient tribe the Tamang, migrated and settled on the high green hills of Nepal Himalaya. Tamang, one of the largest Buddhist religion populations of Nepal history dates back more than 2,000 years since they came a long way from Mongolia through Tibet and made their home in Nepal, where most of the Tamang concentrated around Langtang Himal areas of Rasuwa district.

Tamang People have widely spread around the rim of Kathmandu valley also, interwoven with Buddhism religion and ancient Bon practice, a pre-Buddhism sect worshipping natural spirits deities, which you will of great interest on this walks on Tamang Heritage Trail. Starting scenic and cultural Tamang Heritage Trail Trekking, with an overland journey heading towards central Himalaya region around Langtang Himal, which is the closest mountain range from Kathmandu valley.

As drive leads from low warmer paddy areas to reach at alpine cooler region getting closer to Langtang and Ganesh Himal, where walk leads you to impressive villages of Tamang around Syburbesi, Gatlang, Thuman, Bridam, Thulo Syabru and at Dhunche the main town of Rasuwa district. After exploring villages enriched with ancient culture and age-old heritage along with scenic views of Central Himalaya that includes Ganesh-Langtang and Jugal Himal with Manaslu range of peaks and then completing the great walks with a drive back to Kathmandu.

 What to expect on Tamang Heritage Trek?

Tamang Heritage trek provides you with much information and knowledge of pre and present Buddhism, where one immerse within its ancient culture exploring its traditional villages of old heritage similar to Tibetans across the border.

On this pleasant walk leads you to pristine hills covered with lovely serene woodland of tall rhododendron-magnolia and pine trees, where in spring the whole area turns into a paradise when wild-flowers are in full bloom within the shadow of white snow-capped mountains.

Places and Culture of interest:

Langtang region mostly populated by Tamang indigenous tribes migrated from Mongolia and Tibet past thousands of years, even before Kathmandu valley was still a huge lake before it was drained. The Tamang cultures and traditional life is interwoven with Buddhism religion which is similar to Tibetan custom and heritage, as well as practice ancient Bon (pre-Buddhism sect) worshipping nature and mountain spirits.

Interesting to witness its traditional farm life and culture on walks, where you can explore its lovely villages within the peaceful harmony of pristine natural surroundings.

Today in Kathmandu preparation for the great trek, with last day to buy and hire gears required for the treks, for interested people can join in our half day tour around Kathmandu at places of great interest within world heritage sites. After an interesting tour back to the hotel with a free afternoon for Langtang Valley Panorama trek preparation where next morning exciting drive takes you beyond Kathmandu to high hills of Langtang Himal.

Starting this wonderful journey driving towards North West of Kathmandu passing interesting villages and towns with fabulous scenery of hills, farm terraces and snow-capped peaks after the warm area reaching to cooler region at Langtang National Park entrance in Dhunche 1950 meters, the one and the only major town of Rasuwa district and Langtang area, inhabited mostly of Tamang ethnic tribes throughout the area of this trekking.
From here downhill for two hours with overnight at Syabrubesi, the door to Langtang, Ganesh and into Tamang Heritage Trail and as well to the Tibet border from this village.

The first day walks towards North West, from Syabrubesi taking an old trekking trail to Gatlang, walk leads through many farm areas and villages, then a climb to reach Gatlang village for an overnight stop. Gatlang one of largest villages of Tamang tribe within Langtang area, where you will be received in a traditional way with Khada ( religious silk scarf) and then check into local homestay for overnight, with time to visit around the villages and interact with the locals.

After an enjoyable overnight at Gatlang, second-day walk starts with an uphill climb overlooking views of mountains, as the walk leads past small farm villages and forest to reach at Tatopani for an overnight stop. Afternoon enjoys the hot bathe in Tatopani (Hot Spring/water) rising from the fresh hot spring, and visit the local villages.

Morning walk leads close to Tibet border on route to Nagthali and Thuman, towards north on the gradual trail, and then climb to a hill with few downhills looking over Ganesh Himal and Langtang Lirung peaks, as the walk leads through the forest to reach at Thuman village, with time to explore the village and happy locals.

After an interesting time in Thuman village with views of Ganesh and Langtang Himal, morning starts on a gradual winding path, then climb to a ridge offering superb views of mountains and surrounding landscapes and into rhododendron, pines and oaks forest, then short descend to Briddim for an overnight stop.

After a pleasant overnight at Briddim village, return journey leads to the main trekking route of Langtang area at Lama Hotel, walk leads through enchanting woodlands with views of mountains and then a short descend with few short ups and gradual section to Lama Hotel for an overnight stop.

From Lama Hotel morning walk leads to a nice and interesting village of Upper Syabru also called as Thulo Syabru, a short downhill to Riverside and Bamboo area with small lodges in the middle of rhododendron, oaks and bamboo forests, after short rest here walk continues uphill to a ridge at Upper Syabru.
Thulo Syabru village of traditional Tamang houses is linked together with beautiful carved windows and doors with an old monastery above the village.

After a wonderful time at Thulo (large) Syabru exploring its nice village, morning walk leads uphill into lovely dense forest of rhododendron, oaks and pine trees with views of Langtang and Ganesh Himal and as far towards west peaks of Manaslu and Annapurna Himalaya, although a steep climb but interesting walking into this beautiful forest where more than 10 varieties of rhododendron species exists around this thick woodlands, passing summer pasture and shades of cattle herders and then on the pleasant winding trail to Singh Gomba / Chandanbari village with cheese factory and an old monastery at the top of the village.

From Shing Gompa, catching views of mountains, morning walk leads to long downhill through a dense forest past many cattle herders shelter within grazing and pasture land to reach at the bottom of the hill. After a refreshing stop and then walk for short while on the main road where short climb leads you to Dhunche town for last overnight stop around high hills of Langtang Himal.
