Other Alternative Treks to Consider

Annapurna region as a whole has something for every kind of trekker. One of the best alternatives to the circuit is the trail to the Annapurna Base Camp. It is shorter and fit perfectly as a guided trek to beginners. There are several short and easy treks if that is your preference here. Poon Hill Trek and Mardi Himal Trek are the frontrunners in this category. A moderate but still amazing trekking option here is to one of the highest lakes in the world, as Tilicho Lake Trek.

Another unique trail for the ultimate cultural experience is the Upper Mustang Trek. The rain-shadow region beyond the Himalayas is a trek to the ancient kingdom of Lo. If you prefer a somewhat off-the-beaten-track trail, Khopra Danda and Naar Phu Valley treks can captivate your souls. Apart from these, you can customize different itineraries merging the treks too.

Best Time to do this Trek

Annapurna Circuit trek has one of the highest passes in the Himalayas as Thorung La Pass at 5416 meters elevation. It is inaccessible in harsh weather conditions. Extreme winter can see heavy snow which makes high altitude trekking in the Himalayas dangerous. Similarly, the summer monsoon is not the best period to do treks in Nepal. The trail itself can be uneasy and the weather bit gloomy.
Considering these factors the best time for trekkers to start the Annapurna circuit trek is from the month of March to May. It represents the spring season in this country and the weather is perfect for walking. Similarly, the months of October and November are also fantastic for trekking in the Himalayas. With monsoon ended you will be greeted with clear skies and views.
