What to expect?

Mardi Himal trek rewards you with glorious close views of towering Machhapuchare Himal known as Fish Tail peak, due to its twin summit which is a virgin mountain the unclimbed peaks of Himalaya. Machhapuchare Himal, a respected mountain that dominates the Pokhara valley and on walks to Mardi Himal base camp.

The walk leads you into cool serene alpine woodland facing daily views of snow-capped peaks and dramatic landscapes with rolling green hills and valley, where our route leads away from main busy trekking trails. Trek to Mardi Himal, one of the main highlight of the adventure where you can enjoy views in the harmony of the total bliss of Mountain clean air.

Places and Culture of interest:

Mardi Himal Trekking where walking route leads you into nice traditional farm villages of Dhampus and Potana inhabited by hill tribe Gurung people famous as legendary Gurkha soldiers in foreign legions British and Indian Army since more than hundred years of history.

Gurung people the main occupation is farming and cattle herding apart from menfolk joining as soldiers, Gurung one of the largest tribe within mid and high hills of Annapurna and Lamjung Himal areas. Gurung practice Buddhist religion and culture with own special worship of natural spirits known as Bon practice. An interesting to observe local cultures and age-old custom before heading into marvelous Mardi Himal Base Camp Trek, most of the villages encountering in the beginning and at the end of the trek towards beautiful Pokhara and serene Phewa lakes blessed with mountain views.

Trail and Seasons:

Walking trails are well established till Deurali and Potana after the last village of Deuralin where our route leads into dense woodland with single narrow tracks within the complete wilderness of mountain vague and faint path in some section of the walks.

Trek starts with a drive to Pokhara and beyond where walk leads you from warm low areas to cooler alpine hills then into the mountainous zone. The best seasons for this trek to Mardi Himal, March onward to May, which is one of the high seasons, where you will witness wildflowers in bloom which makes the country alive with riots of colors from rhododendron and other wildflowers, morning till midday almost clear with sunshine late afternoon can get cloudy with chances of few showers and sometimes can get snowed.

September, October to December another best months and as well a high season for walks around Himalaya region with almost clear days can be cold in the morning and night times with full views of peaks with short sunlight from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.

Day 02: In Kathmandu with sightseeing tour and trek preparation.

Day 03: Drive / Fly to Pokhara 820m (220 k.m - 06 hrs rides (30 mins by air).

Day 04: Drive to Dhampus village 1,530 m and trek to Deurali 2,150 m - 05 hrs.

Day 05: Trek to Kokar Forest camp 2,520m - 04 hrs.

Day 06: Trek to Low Camp 2,970 m - 05 hrs.

Day 07: Trek to High camp 3, 700 m - 05 hrs.

Day 08: Free day at High Camp for hike to Mardi Himal base camp at 4,500 m.

Day 09: Trek to Forest Camp - 05 hrs.

Day 10: Trek to Siding village 1,750m | 5,740ft - 06 hrs.

Day 11: Short walk and drive back to Pokhara with afternoon free.

Day 12: Drive or fly back to Kathmandu afternoon free at leisure.

Day 13: International departure homeward bound.

Today in Kathmandu preparation for the great trek, with last day to buy and hire gears required for the treks, for interested people can join in our half day tour around Kathmandu at places of great interest within world heritage sites.
Afternoon free at leisure preparation for Mardi Himal Base Camp trekking where exciting drive takes you to Nepal Mid-West Himalaya area.

The morning starts with a drive on tourist coach or smaller vehicle as group size for an overland journey that takes you away from Kathmandu valley, heading into low warmer areas with views of snowcapped mountains. As drive continues on busy main highway past farm villages and town then heading Nepal Mid-West to reach at scenic Pokhara city. At Pokhara transfer to nice hotels by the serene lake Phewa with views of Annapurna and Manaslu mountain range with towering peaks of Machhapuchare ‘Fish Tail’.

After a wonderful overnight stop at Pokhara with grand views of Annapurna Himal and Machhapuchare peaks 'Fish Tail', completing breakfast then taking a drive beyond Pokhara valley to start our first days' trek. Drive along facing views of Annapurna Himalaya as ride leads past farm villages and towns and then drive leads ups on winding zig-zag road to reach at scenic hill ridge at Dhampus village, offers a super panorama of Annapurna-Manaslu range of mountains with magnificent Machhapuchare Himal the Fish Tail peak. From Dhampus one of the large Gurung villages adorned with Buddhist prayer flags on houses, where our first day walk starts with slow climb into cool shade of forest to reach at Potana village overlooking fabulous views of Annapurna peaks. After a brief stop at Potana few hours, walks leads to climbing into forested areas to reach at Deurali Hilltop for an overnight stop in this lovely scenic spot with the grand panorama of mountains and landscapes views.

After a pleasant overnight stop in Deurali with fantastic morning views, walk begins heading north away from main trekking trail along a ridgeline into cool shade of forest facing views of Annapurna I and South with Huinchuli, towards east Annapurna IV-II and Lamjung Himal and then finally ending the day walk at Forest Camp for overnight stop, located in the middle of forest with number of simple lodges.

From here, walk leads higher climb leads to steep uphill trail into forest walking past pasture land to reach at Low Camp for an overnight stop, as our walk leads closer to Mardi base camp at low Camp enjoy views of surrounding landscapes and mountains at close range.

Morning walk leads with grand vista of beautiful landscapes and snow-clad peaks in perfect tranquil surrounding, as walk leads higher to reach at High Camp, where air gets cooler with steep climb to reach at High Camp, from here tree lines fades for short rhododendron and juniper bushes, High Camp located on remote and isolated spot with some nice simple lodge for overnight accommodation with basic facilities commanding super views of Annapurna Himalaya.

Today walk leads to our final destination and as well the highest point of the adventure at above 4,500 m high.
The morning starts with a steep climb along a ridgeline to reach on a hidden plateau at the base of Mardi Himal just beneath towering Mt. Machhapuchare; this area is known also called as 'Other Sanctuary' named by early pioneer Jimmy Roberts when he first explored this in early 1970's. After enjoying the views of super mountain panorama return back on the same route for an overnight stop.

Morning enjoys the super views and then retrace the walk back on the same route entering back into rich green vegetation and tall tree lines as walk reach you at Kokar or Forest Camp for last overnight stop in high hills of Mardi and Annapurna Himalaya.

After a fabulous time on the high ridges of Mardi Himal with beautiful views and back into forest of rhododendron and pines trees, retracing the journey back on same trail at Jungle Camp and beyond with more downhill walk to reach at Sidang village located between the junction to another East and West route to Mardi Himal on warmer area for overnight stop before ending this lovely trek next day.
